The short answer
Measure your tree's pole before you look at anything else. Both stands on this page publish the same fit range — 1.25 to 2.125 inches of trunk diameter — and a pole outside it does not mount, whatever the tree's height. If the tree stays decorated year-round, buy the stand with locking casters. If the tree comes apart and the problem is the weight of the loaded bag, you want a dolly instead, and the stand will not help you.
Two different problems that look like one
People arrive at wheeled tree products from two directions and the products do not overlap as much as the listings suggest.
The first problem is an assembled tree that has to move. It lives in the front room in December and in a basement corner, a spare bedroom or the back of a garage for the rest of the year. Nobody wants to carry it, and dragging an assembled tree is how branch tips end up on the doorframe. That is a stand problem: you want the tree to roll on its own base.
The second problem is a dismantled tree in a bag that is too heavy to carry. Nine feet of tree in a fabric bag is an awkward 30 or 40 pounds, and the usual failure is not the bag splitting, it is the person dragging it across concrete until the base wears through. That is a dolly problem: you want the container to roll.
The two answers are priced differently, mount differently, and fail differently. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake in this corner of the category.

One column is empty all the way down, and it is the one that matters most: nobody publishes a load rating. Not for the stand collar, not for the casters, not for the dolly frame. These are products whose entire job is carrying weight, sold without a weight figure. We rank on published numbers, so that absence is marked rather than excused, and it is the reason no product on this page scores in the nines.
Trunk diameter is the whole purchase
Tree height is the number on the box and the number in every listing title, and for a stand it is nearly useless. What mounts a tree is the pole, and pole diameter does not scale neatly with height: plenty of 7.5 ft trees use the same 1.5-inch pole as a 9 ft tree from the same range, while a heavy 12 ft tree may use something outside a stand's stated range entirely.
Both stands here publish 1.25 to 2.125 inches. Measure across your pole with a tape at the point where it sits in the current stand, and if you are near either end of that range, treat it as a no. A pole at the bottom of the range wobbles in the collar; a pole above the top does not go in at all.
The one thing height does tell you is which stand is designed for the load. The metal stand states 7 to 12 ft and has a metal frame; the plastic-bodied stand states up to 9 ft. With no published load ratings, the frame material and the stated height range are the only proxies for capacity anybody gives you.
The locking caster question
Five wheels with two locks, against four wheels with none, is the clearest functional difference between the two stands, and it decides more than it appears to.
A bare tree on free casters is fine. A decorated tree on free casters is a tree that moves when a child pulls at a branch, when someone reaches under it, or when the vacuum goes past. Two locks are enough — you are not trying to immobilize it, only to stop it drifting. If the tree will be decorated while it stands on wheels, the locks are not optional and the cheaper stand is the wrong product.
If the stand is purely a storage-season device, and the tree stands undecorated in a basement corner for ten months, the locks buy you very little and the four-caster stand is the sensible purchase.
A stand is not a container
This is where the category misleads people. A rolling stand solves movement completely and storage not at all. A tree parked on a stand in a garage collects ten months of dust, spider webs and whatever else lives in that space, and no amount of caster quality changes that.
The arrangement that works is a stand underneath and an upright bag over the top. When the dolly is the right answer instead
The dolly is a different product for a different household: the tree comes apart, goes into a long bag, and the bag is then too heavy or too awkward to carry to the far end of a garage. A full-length steel frame under the fabric and four wheels including metal casters turn that carry into a push.

Floors, thresholds and the practical limits
Casters are wonderful on a flat hard floor and useless everywhere else. They do nothing on stairs, they stall on a door threshold with a lip, and on a garage floor with a crack or an expansion joint a small caster stops dead while the tree keeps going. If the route from the front room to the storage corner includes a step, no wheeled product on this page solves your problem and you are back to a two-person carry.
On finished floors, both stands state scratch-resistant wheels. Neither publishes a wheel material or hardness, so treat that as a marketing claim rather than a specification: what actually scratches a floor is grit picked up in a garage and carried back through the house. Wipe the casters before the tree comes back inside, which costs nothing and is more effective than anything the listing promises.
