- What size storage bag do I need for a 7.5 ft Christmas tree?
- One with at least 50 inches of published interior length. Buy for the longest single piece your tree breaks into, not for the height printed on the box: a 7.5 ft tree typically splits into sections of 34 to 40 inches, and 50 inches gives room for that plus the stand and working slack.
- What size bag does a 9 ft tree need?
- At least 60 inches. A 9 ft tree's longest section runs 40 to 50 inches. The Zober 600D bag publishes 65 inches and clears it comfortably; the wheeled 9 ft bags publish around 60, which works only if your sections are at the short end of the range.
- Can you store a Christmas tree without taking it apart?
- Yes, in an upright bag. The number that decides it is the tree's diameter with the branches folded up, not its height, and you also need eight feet of ceiling clearance where the bag stands. Santa's Bags publishes 40 inches of diameter capacity on its 9 ft upright, which is the only figure of that kind we found stated outright.
- Is a tree storage bag better than a box?
- A bag if the tree lives on a shelf or in a loft, because it compresses around an irregular load and takes less shelf depth. A box if anything gets stacked on top of it. The tree does not care; the storage location decides.
- How many ornaments does a 128-compartment box hold?
- One hundred and twenty-eight, if every one is 3 inches across or smaller. That is the catch in the number. Count by size class instead: a piece 4 to 6 inches across consumes four slots and a finial six to nine, so a 90-ornament collection with a dozen large pieces frequently needs 128 slots rather than 96.
- What is the best way to store glass ornaments?
- One ornament per compartment, hooks removed and bagged separately, unprinted tissue on painted and gilded finishes only, and the box near the top of the stack rather than the bottom. The compartment does most of the work; wrapping is a secondary defense, and newspaper is actively the wrong wrap because the ink transfers.
- What container holds a 40-inch roll of wrapping paper?
- One publishing at least 40.25 inches of interior length, which in practice means a fabric organizer rather than a rigid box. The Zober under-bed organizer publishes 40.5 inches; the longest rigid under-bed box we found publishes 37 3/8 inches inside, which is two and five-eighths inches short.
- What size container does a 24-inch wreath need?
- A 30-inch one. Go one size class above your measured diameter, because a container the same nominal size as the wreath presses the outer tips against the wall and they stay flattened. A 24-inch container is the correct buy for an 18 to 20 inch wreath.
- How do you store Christmas lights so they do not tangle?
- One strand per reel, wound from the plug end under light even tension. A single strand alone on a reel cannot tangle, because tangling requires a second strand to cross it. Everything else in this category is a mechanism for enforcing that one rule.
- How many light storage reels do I need?
- One per separate run in your display, not one per hundred feet. Walk the house and list the runs: tree, mantel, each window, porch rail, roofline. That count is your reel count, and then you check your longest run against the published per-reel capacity, which is 60 to 80 feet on the products we rank.
- Can Christmas decorations be stored in a garage?
- Most of them, yes, in sealed rigid containers kept off the floor. Artificial trees, plastic foliage, light strands, tinsel and outdoor decorations are all fine. What does not belong there is anything glass, painted, paper-based, or carrying natural material such as pine cones and berries, which are food for pests.
- Is an attic or a basement better for decorations?
- A basement is usually gentler on temperature and harsher on humidity; an attic is the reverse. For glass and painted items, a dry basement is generally better of the two. Neither beats a conditioned closet inside the house, which is where genuinely irreplaceable things should go.
- How many storage bins do I need for Christmas?
- One per category is the arrangement that works: ornaments, lights, wreaths and garland, tree hardware, table and mantel, outdoor. For most households that is four to six bins plus the tree bag. Size each one to its tallest contents rather than buying six identical bins.
- Why do you list a product you say not to buy?
- Because a recommendation set with nothing excluded is not a recommendation set. Every category page here names at least one product we would not buy, with the reason. It is usually a product that is genuinely good at a different job, or one whose maker does not publish the dimensions you would need to check the fit.
- Do you test the products you recommend?
- No, and we say so on every page. We have never handled any product on this site. What we do instead is compile the manufacturers' published dimensions, compute what fits what, and publish the arithmetic so you can check it. The full method and its limits are on the how we pick page.
- Why does a price sometimes say 'Check price' instead of a number?
- Because our live price feed does not have a current figure for that product. Prices on this site come from a daily feed and disappear if they go more than 48 hours stale, rather than being replaced with a remembered number. A price that was true last month looks authoritative and is not.
- How does Tinsel Tote make money?
- Affiliate commission. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. At launch every buy link goes to Amazon at the same category rate, so there is no product we are paid more to recommend than another.
- How often is the site updated?
- Prices daily. Availability monthly, because a roundup whose top pick cannot be bought is broken. Specifications quarterly, re-read against the current listing. And every category page is fully re-verified before 15 October each year, ahead of the season.
